Our Origins

Linda and Barney Squire started The Squire in 1974 in a 300-square foot room.

Barney spent 25-years as a sales representative for Davidoff and prior to that, Punch, hoyo de Monterry, H. Upmann, Don Diego, Montecristo, Macanudo, and Partagas. Bringing insight and information from other stores and locales, Barney contributed to the growth and direction of the store.

Linda has served on the boards of major industry associations since 1983. She went on to serve as President of the Tobacconists' Association of America (TAA) from 1989 - 1991 and as President of the Retail Tobacco Dealers of America (RTDA) from 2003 - 2005.

With almost 100-years of combined experience in the industry, Linda and Barney have toured the Camacho factory and tobacco fields in Danli, Honduras, the Tabacalera Garcia factory in La Romana, Dominican Republic (Altadis, USA), and on the other side of the island in Santo Domingo, D.R. toured the factories of General Cigar Co., Davidoff of Geneva, Arturo Fuente, MATASA (Fonseca), La Aurora, among others.
